Description

Do you have a family history of heart disease? Have you ever been told that you are overweight? Do you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol? Are you unable to find time to exercise?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be eligible to participate in a scientific study involving the dietary supplement, Nattokinase.

This study will evaluate the effects of Nattokinase on blood levels of C-Reactive Protein (CRP)--a marker of inflammation strongly associated with cardiovascular disease--in individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease. It involves having blood drawn at baseline, taking one dose of Nattokinase, then having blood drawn again at 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hours after ingestion of the Nattokinase. The blood collected will then be tested for CRP.

Participants will receive all study supplements and testing performed at no cost, and will be compensated $100 for the entire study. CRP results will be provided to participants upon request.

Participants must:
Be Age 18-65
Speak English fluently
Have at least 3 of the following risk factors for Cardiovascular Disease:
1) High Blood Pressure
2) High Cholesterol
3) Overweight
4) Family history of heart disease
5) Physically inactive
6) Current smoker
7) Male/Post-Menopausal Female
Not currently be taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, fish oil, anti-coagulants, anti-platelet drugs, or anti-histamines
Not currently be taking any other prescription medication.
Willing to avoid soy foods for one week before the study and during the study
Not be participating in any other clinical trials
